As the Number of Fatal 18-Wheeler Accidents in Louisiana Rise, Drivers are Advised to Take Extra Precautions to Protect Themselves and Their Loved Ones

No one doubts the essential functions 18-wheelers provide in the daily exchange of commodities as large truck drivers tend to cover as much as 5,000 to 6,000 miles a week. Just last week, an 18-wheeler traveling southbound on LA Highway 578 struck a 58-year-old man going east at a Highway intersection in Franklin Parish. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Because large trucks weight approximately 30 times more than typical passenger cars, drivers are advised to take extra precautions when driving near 18 wheelers. The best practices are avoiding large truck’s blind spots (typically this is directly on either side of the 18 wheelers, lasting approximately the distance of the truck), increasing the following distance between you and the truck, and always wearing a seat belt.
